The Chandler Compadres were established in 1980 as a non-profit organization with the sole mission of providing support for East Valley families in need. The group started with fewer than 20 members and now has over 100 active and life members. The Chandler Compadres donate their time, resources, talents and money to help disadvantaged kids in Chandler and the east valley. Compadre members are civic-minded business and community leaders in industries which currently include agriculture, information technology, engineering, grocery, banking, law, advertising, real estate, small business and government.
The Chandler Compadres consists of a maximum of 40 active members and over 60 life members. Members meet once monthly, and are required to meet yearly financial fundraising goals through a variety of events including Rock the Cause for Kids, the Compadre Golf Classic and the Arizona Charitable Organization Tax Credit Program. Membership in the Chandler Compadres requires an active or life member sponsor and approval by the Compadre board and full membership. The Compadre membership includes notable community members and business leaders including former Chandler Mayor Jim Patterson, Michael Basha of Bashas’ Grocery aucasinosonline.com/sa/ and John Chapman of Chapman Chevrolet.
Kurt Johansen is the Chandler Compadres President for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. Kurt is a 25-year banker and is currently EVP/Commercial Lending Director for Western State Bank, here in Chandler. Kurt has lived in the east valley for almost 50 years and in 1996, Kurt and his wife Stacy bought their first home in Chandler where they have raised their three kids, Ryan, Max and Rylee. During Kurt’s time here in Chandler, Kurt has served on various Chandler area boards including AzCend, Chandler Industrial Authority and the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of the Compadres since 2011.
